Email from Marlene's surgeon... Thu 06/03/2008 16:27
Dear Gary
As I said on the phone, I was very upset to hear of this morning's dramatic events. I have got to know you and Marlene far more than many of my other patients, and I found her to be an immensely spirited and proud woman, who I grew very fond of. She bore her disease and the disabilities that followed surgery with great dignity, and with an amazing sense of humour. Even with the impaired communication following her most recent operation, her strength and fight shone through.
You two seemed to have a particularly strong and loving relationship, and that is to be greatly admired. I have seldom seen the selfless devotion that you showed in nursing Marlene, and I could see that it was simply due to your great love for each other.
If you would like to meet at any stage for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
You have my deepest sympathies
Scott
